2A/developments
From Leapspecs
Belongs to the Leap2A/specification
Please see Leap2A/spec changes for records of what has now been changed.
Please see Leap2A/future for other things that have not been brought on to the active agenda (but may or may not be in the future).
It is still possible to correct errors, or clarify things that are obscure. There may also be space for minor amendments that do not affect current implementations.
Qualifications and types of qualification
Raised 2010-03-25
Derby's eAPEL system has a place for type of qualification. This is clearly some information that could be represented common to everyone. For interoperability, probably the most important feature would be level. In the UK, this is now the QCF (previously the NQF), but we also need to take into account the EQF, and possibly other frameworks. The QDCA has various resources relating to the QCF.
Derby's eAPEL interface, and other interfaces, will continue to need to display choices with meaning to learners, whereas the QCF levels would not be meaningful. The suggestion would be then that we specify some level category schemes for Leap2A, and allow individual systems to specify their own schemes for the types of qualifications that they wish to display.
There are probably other issues about qualifications that should be raised, and ideally agreed, at the same time. For example, representing a qualification, what goes in the atom:title, what goes in the atom:content? Should we use atom:summary for something?
At the meeting on 2010-07-15 we agreed that we would not make related changes for the 2010-07 version, but instead reconsider the question alongside skills and competence frameworks, assessment, and verification.
